What is FinComp
The Financial Competence Framework for Adults (FinComp) is the reference framework for adult financial competences in the European Union. Jointly developed by the European Commission and OECD/INFE, FinComp defines the competences needed to make informed and responsible financial decisions.
The framework organises financial competences into 4 areas, 24 competences and 4 proficiency levels, covering all aspects of everyday financial life.
The 4 competence areas
- Money and transactions - Managing money in daily life, understanding payment methods and financial transactions
- Planning and managing finances - Planning and managing income, household budgets and long-term financial planning
- Risk and reward - Understanding the relationship between risk and return, insurance and investment diversification
- Financial landscape - Understanding the financial context, consumer rights, regulation and the impact of financial decisions
