What is LifeComp
The European Framework for Personal, Social and Learning to Learn Key Competence (LifeComp) is the European framework defining personal, social and learning to learn competences. Published by the JRC in 2020, LifeComp addresses the need to develop fundamental transversal competences for life, work and active citizenship.
The framework organises competences into 3 areas and 9 competences, each articulated into Awareness, Understanding and Action.
The 3 competence areas
- Personal area - Competences related to self-regulation
- Self-regulation: awareness and management of emotions, thoughts and behaviours
- Flexibility: ability to manage transitions and uncertainty
- Wellbeing: pursuit of physical, mental and social wellbeing
- Social area - Competences for relating to others
- Empathy: understanding others' emotions, experiences and values
- Communication: using communication strategies appropriate to the context
- Collaboration: participating in group activities and negotiation
- Learning to learn - Competences for continuous learning
- Growth mindset: believing in one's learning potential
- Critical thinking: evaluating information and arguments to reach reasoned conclusions
- Managing learning: planning, organising and reflecting on one's own learning
