What is DigCompEdu

The Digital Competence Framework for Educators (DigCompEdu) is the European Union framework defining the specific digital competences for educators. Published by the JRC in 2017, it focuses on how education professionals can effectively use digital technologies in their professional practice.

DigCompEdu organises competences into 6 areas and 22 competences, each with 6 proficiency levels (from Newcomer to Pioneer).

The 6 competence areas

1. Professional engagement - Using digital technologies for communication, collaboration and professional development
2. Digital resources - Sourcing, creating and sharing digital educational resources
3. Teaching and learning - Managing and orchestrating the use of digital technologies in teaching
4. Assessment - Using digital tools to enhance assessment strategies
5. Empowering learners - Using digital technologies to differentiate, personalise and actively engage learners
6. Facilitating learners' digital competence - Enabling learners to develop their digital competences
