What is DigComp

The Digital Competence Framework for Citizens (DigComp) is the European Union's reference framework for citizens' digital competences. Developed by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, DigComp defines what it means to be digitally competent in today's world.

The current version, DigComp 2.2, published in 2022, organises digital competences into 5 areas, 21 competences and over 250 examples of knowledge, skills and attitudes.

The 5 competence areas

1. Information and data literacy - Browsing, evaluating and managing digital data and information
2. Communication and collaboration - Interacting, sharing and collaborating through digital technologies
3. Digital content creation - Developing, integrating and re-elaborating digital content
4. Safety - Protecting devices, personal data, health and the environment
5. Problem solving - Identifying needs and solving technical and conceptual problems

What DigComp Explorer offers

Who is it for

DigComp is used by educators, trainers, HR managers, policy makers and citizens who want to understand and develop their digital competences. It underpins certifications such as ICDL and IDCERT and is adopted in training programmes across Europe.
